Résumé
Philosophy of Teaching/Education
My philosophy of teaching/education is that children should be given information beyond what is required on standardized tests. I want students' experiences in my classroom to be enriching, preparing them for both other cultures and customs and for life. That's why I go beyond what is required by state standards in my teaching, not only providing students with the information they need, but also the context of how to put it to use. I want students to truly remember the information from my classroom, and to leave better critical thinkers who make connections and have more life experience as a result than if they were in a class with a teacher who did not do these things.
The world needs critical thinkers and problem solvers, not regurgitators of information, and I am trying to solve that problem by educating the next generation and making them ask questions about our world. Why are things the way they are? How did they get that way? Should they be that way? And, if not, how can we change them?
These are all processes I use in my classroom to improve the learning environment from assign-and-tell teaching to every student being involved and truly considering the implications and applications of the information they are receiving. Through this method, I fully believe that my students will enter the next level, whether that is higher education or the workplace, citizens of the world.
